If you've read any of my interviews, you know that I fully support Indie authors and love to get into their minds to find out what drives their desire for writing. However, I also like to read and when I stop by my local Lifeway Bookstore, I always pick up a book to carry home with me. While browsing the shelves one day, I came across a book by DiAnn Mills. I hadn't heard much about her, but I recall having seen her books for a while. So, I snagged a copy and took it home. After reading the book in only a few days, I knew I wanted to know more about this writer's process and pick her brain a little.
DiAnn Mills is a bestselling author who believes her readers should expect an adventure. She combines unforgettable characters with unpredictable plots to create action-packed, suspense-filled novels.
Her titles have appeared on the CBA and ECPA bestseller lists; won two Christy Awards; and been finalists for the RITA, Daphne Du Maurier, Inspirational Readers’ Choice, and Carol award contests. Firewall, the first book in her Houston: FBI series, was listed by Library Journal as one of the best Christian Fiction books of 2014.
DiAnn is a founding board member of the American Christian Fiction Writers, a member of Advanced Writers and Speakers Association, Sisters in Crime, and International Thriller Writers. She is co-director of The Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference and The Mountainside Marketing Conference with social media specialist Edie Melson where she continues her passion of helping other writers be successful. She speaks to various groups and teaches writing workshops around the country.
DiAnn has been termed a coffee snob and roasts her own coffee beans. She’s an avid reader, loves to cook, and believes her grandchildren are the smartest kids in the universe. She and her husband live in sunny Houston, Texas.

AJ: Can you tell us a little about yourself and what led you to be a writer?
DM: I’d always wanted to be a writer, but it took my husband’s dare to push me in the right direction. He challenged me to quit my job and write a book. He gave me a year to get anything published. I succeeded! During that year, I sold articles and wrote my first book. Almost two years after his dare, my first book was released. I love story: the characters and plot, how they interact with each other, their adventure which means the reader’s adventure. Story is life. It’s history told in an unthreatening environment.
AJ: What was your favorite book to write and why?
DM: That’s a hard one to answer—like asking me which one of my children or grandchildren are my favorite. Every book is harder than the previous one, so it becomes my favorite.
AJ: You're just about to release a new book. Can you give us a synopsis of it and when we can expect to see it on the shelves?
